Ask nicely, but earn the right to ask first

The general advice when it comes to hustle is to relentlessly ask people for what you want and magically a few of them will come through. What is missing in that advice is that you first have to earn the right to ask AND also you have to deserve to get what it is you are asking. Only then will you increase the chance of a long-term win.
